It's e-waste day here at Google. Time to ditch all my 16MB video cards, 10base2 Ethernet cards, UltraSCSI HBAs (fast 'n wide) and some old tape backup gear.
I might keep the Pentium 2 just for the bed of nails heat sink. Raj Iyengar snagged the Myspace branded Flip video camera with the dead battery.
The second I throw computer parts away will also be the day I find out I really needed one of those cables.
I loved the PII because ZIF sockets are always such a trick.
Oh man, why don't they call products "fast and wide" anymore? Everybody wants 'skinny'. I have a few of those. I think they were 2940s.
I have a really hard time throwing away some of my hardware. I've become emotionally attached to the parts I used for my first custom-built PC, for example. I'll probably hold on to them forever and bore my grandchildren with them.
Jon Krafcik -- I know how you feel. I saved the G1 micro-usb headphone jack that I found in this pile. l also have my first home-built PC (though it's powered off and on it's 3rd mobo :)
Paul Lindner - love the leftover electronics parts/gadgets. If you can't find a home for the Pentium 2 I would be happy to take it off your hands.
william myrhang, Gus Class , Paul Lindner , it's funny because I think the SteamBox and a few other devices are going to bring back the Processor Socket design. I don't remember why, but it has to do with the current sockets not having the electrical requirements to push processors further. for the steambox it's more about upgrade-ability.
I wish there were more of those. I have so much e-waste/ parts that could find a good home to the right hacker. Sigh, i'm no longer that hacker.
